What do farmers do in the winter? Well, Emergency Food Network’s farmers are focused on improving for the next season at EFN’s Mother Earth Farm. We are spending time pruning and fertilizing our acre of orchard trees. We are surveying our food pantry partners to create our crop planning documents for 2019. We are cleaning Mother Earth Farm, servicing our tractors and other equipment, and continuing to develop community relationships.
On top of all that, we are still growing food and harvesting from our fields and high tunnels. With an increased demand for root vegetables, we focus on growing winter beets and carrots alongside an array of winter greens. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to see how we start seeds in the winter in our germination chambers.
Harvested this month: tatsoi, mizuna, mustard, arugula, kale, collards, beets, chard, lettuce, radishes, cabbage
