We have harvested and distributed more than 93,000 pounds of produce from EFN’s Mother Earth Farm so far this year. This poundage is higher than usual for this point in the season. We contribute it to the hard work of our amazing volunteers and our crew from Washington’s Correctional Center for Women (WCCW).
Over twenty women have joined us this year from WCCW to learn about seeding, transplanting, harvesting, and weeding. The joy, hard-working attitude, and commitment to feeding the community that our incarcerated crew members bring to the fields is truly inspiring.
We’ve had some amazing volunteers come out to help us weed and transplant this season. Three of our regular volunteers, Jan, Yan, and Kevin, planted our cucumber high tunnel this early spring. This cucumber tunnel has consistently provided over 1,500 pounds of cucumbers each year.
TOTE Maritime has maintained their beautiful scarlet kale plants, as part of our Adopt-a-Row program. They’ve already harvested over 1,000 pounds of kale.
Thank you so much to all our volunteers. Your time with us weeding, seeding, and transplanting has helped us provide farmer’s market quality produce across Pierce County to our neighbors in need.
Join us at our last Brewer’s Night of the season on Friday, August 23, 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm. Enjoy a cold one while helping us conquer the weeds in the fields! Registration and more info.
