Mother Earth Farm

We are in full crop planning mode as we near February. Our hot crop seeds including tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants have been ordered and will be seeded in the next three weeks.  We have completed multiple projects in the past month like our new high tunnel doors and our three pollinator strips. Winter is the time when farm maintenance can become a high priority. By the time spring comes, we should have 10 new tables for the greenhouse and a new mobile high tunnel!

The creative juices are flowing, and we are reflecting on the successes and failures of the previous season. 2023 crop planning has been focused on what crops produce our highest yields, have the most dependable longevity in the field, and are the most disease and pest resistant. With this model of seed searching, we sift out varieties that aren’t providing our community with the most in produce we can give it.

The team at Mother Earth continues to produce and distribute food through the winter. We harvest several crops in the field that help us to provide vegetables to our partners through the winter and into early spring. These crops include: several varieties of kale, collards, napa cabbage, English cabbage brussels sprouts and their leaves, broccoli, kohlrabi, bok choi, winter squash, mustard greens, and overwintered beets. Because of our preparation in the Summer and Fall of 2022, as well as the more mild weather, we have been able to harvest from all of these crops to give our partners and home delivery clients a well-rounded experience of the PNW’s winter bounty.
